Six Flags' newest roller coaster ride, The Joker, opens Saturday
The 12-story free-fly coaster will send riders through a series of six spins and gyrations -- both forward and backward
The public opening of The Joker – Six Flags Over Texas’ 13th and newest roller coaster ride – is Saturday, and the anticipation level is as high as the top of the ride.
After being lifted straight up a 12-story, 90-degree hill, riders go through a series of gyrations – six in total – along a gravity-defying trip. The Joker is a free-fly coaster, which means riders can flip forward and backward regardless of which way the coaster is moving.
Riders on The Joker will be suspended in midair on winged and harnessed seats that are attached to a central mechanism moving around the track.
The ride, which lasts approximately one minute, is as frenzied and erratic as its DC Super Villain namesake.
“Every time you take a dip, you are spinning as well,” Six Flags Over Texas park president Steve Martindale said. “Really, by the time you get to the end, you are pretty ready for it to be over because it’s pretty intense.”
Six Flags will be open from 10:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday.
