An Arlington man was killed after he was struck by a vehicle on the highway while attempting to repair a flat tire.

Richard Spencer, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene in the 5800 block of U.S. Highway 287. Police said Spencer’s car had become disabled with a flat tire around 8 p.m., and he had pulled off to the side of the road to fix it.

As Spencer exited his vehicle and went to the trunk area, a second vehicle heading southbound veered off the roadway and struck him and his car.

Investigators are still working out the circumstances of the accident. No additional details were available.
