Collision with SUV kills motorcyclist on 287
The incident is the third motorcycle fatality on an Arlington highway in less than a month
A collision between a sport utility vehicle and a motorcycle on U.S. 287 Sunday night has killed the rider of the motorcycle and injured the driver of the SUV, according to an Arlington police report.
It is the third fatal accident involving a motorcyle on an Arlington highway in less than a month.
At approximately 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Arlington police responded to an accident in the 7900 block of U.S. 287. A motorcycle was travelling southbound and approaching Turner Warnell Road in the left lane. One lane over beside the motorcycle was the SUV.
Investigators believe the driver of the SUV attempted a lane change to the left and noticed the motorcycle occupying that lane.
It is alleged that the driver then attempted to overcorrect by moving sharply to the right and then back to the left, causing the SUV to make contact with the motorcycle.
The operator of the motorcycle was thrown clear, but transported to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. The SUV overturned, but the driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The identity of the motorcyclist is being withheld, pending notification of their next of kin by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
