Warriors outlast Colts, close in on district hoops title

Bowie clinched playoff spot, while Juan Seguin closed in on 9-5A trophy

The Martin Warriors grabbed an early lead and held off a late run by the Arlington Colts, to take a 50-41 victory Friday night in the Colt Gym.

With the win, Martin (20-9, 11-2) remain tied for the lead in District 4-6A, while Arlington High fell to 10-21 and 3-10.

Jay’Len Wilson led the Warriors with 12 points, while Jalen Petillo added 11. Kendrick Gay led Arlington with 11 points.

Bowie 72, Mansfield 65

The Volunteers (23-10, 9-4 in District 4-6A) held off a huge comeback attempt by Mansfield and clinched a playoff spot with a win in the Bowie Gym.

Bowie led, 49-35, going into the fourth quarter before the Tigers (17-15, 8-5) scored 30 points down the stretch to keep the game competitive. Kyler Edwards led Bowie with 22 points, while Richard Robinson contributed 16.

Lamar 71, Fort Worth Paschal 54

Cecil Roberts scored 20 points and Francis Doe added 12 as the Vikings (14-16, 7-6 in District 4-6A) remained alive in the playoff chase with a win in the Lamar Gym.

The Vikings are fifth in the district, but are just one game behind Mansfield for fourth.

North Crowley 49, Sam Houston 28

CROWLEY -- North Crowley (24-6, 11-2 in District 4-6A) held Sam Houston to just 11 first half points and cruised to an easy victory in the Panther gym.

North Crowley remains tied for first in the district alongside Martin with the win. Mataio Irving led Sam Houston (7-23, 1-12) with 10 points.

Juan Seguin 52, Burleson 42

BURLESON – Kannon Jones tossed in 15 points to lead the Cougars (21-10, 10-3) to within one win of clinching the District 9-5A title with a win in the Burleson gym.

After leading by just two at halftime, the Cougars put 29 second half points on the board to claim the win. Burleson (15-15, 5-8) was eliminated from playoff contention with the loss.
