Cowboys, AISD teaming up for NFL Draft Community programs
Former Dallas Cowboys greats Drew Pearson and DeMarcus Ware are serving Community Ambassadors
Two former Dallas Cowboys are teaming up to serve as Community Ambassadors for a series of outreach initiatives relating to the 2018 NFL Draft, which will take place from April 26-28 at AT&T Stadium.
Cowboy greats Drew Pearson and DeMarcus Ware have agreed to co-sponsor the programs, which will begin Thursday morning with Ware joining Dallas Cowboys Executive Vice President and Chief Brand Officer Charlotte Jones Anderson and Arlington ISD Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos for a community meeting from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at AT&T Stadium.
The program, the first in the series of NFL Draft Community programs, will have the group presenting the first two outreach initiatives that were created for current AISD junior high and high school students to the district’s administration, athletic coordinators and football coaches.
“The Dallas Cowboys are excited to use the energy that surrounds the NFL Draft to showcase the values that the game of football teaches youth,” Anderson said. “These qualities – leadership, character, teamwork, diligence and determination – go beyond the game and provide a lasting impact for entire communities. Football can create a spirit of community and we look forward to sharing that experience with the nation before and during Draft Week.”
Other programs planned for the series include the Arlington ISD Community Quarterback High School Football Volunteer Challenge, the Arlington ISD Student-Athlete Mentorship Program, the NFL Draft Guest Speaker Series, a Character Playbook: NFL Draft Edition, the Celebrating Creativity Through Student Art Installation and the Fuel Up to Play 60 Touchdown Celebration.
The NFL and the Dallas Cowboys are also sponsoring an assortment of other youth football activities at The Star in Frisco in association with the NFL and USA Football, as well as using local student athletes as volunteers during the NFL Draft Weekend.
