Local girls basketball teams ready to open playoffs

After battling in strong districts, four Arlington girls hoops squads begin the road to Austin next week

Four Arlington ISD girls basketball teams will be headed to the postseason next week as the UIL playoffs begin.

The 4-6A champion Bowie Lady Volunteers (28-7) will begin their run at state by hosting Abilene (24-11), the fourth-place team in District 3-6A. The game will be played at 6 p.m. Monday in the Bowie Gym.

The Martin Lady Warriors (20-12), the runner-up in 4-6A, will take on Keller (17-14), the third-place team in 3-6A Tuesday night at L.D. Bell High School in Hurst. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Lamar’s Lady Vikings (19-13), the fourth-place finisher in 4-6A, will battle Keller Timber Creek (28-4), the champion of District 3-6A, at 8 p.m. Tuesday at W.G. Thomas Coliseum in Haltom City.

The Seguin Lady Cougars (25-9), the runner-up in District 9-5A, will open the playoffs against their neighbors, the Mansfield Summit Lady Jaguars (22-12). The game is scheduled for 6:30 Monday night at Mansfield High School.
